Our Daytona Beach, Florida, office was recently featured in the Daytona Beach News-Journal for its impactful initiative with students from Spruce Creek High School. During an “Immersion Week” at Brown & Brown Inc.’s downtown headquarters, twelve students from Spruce Creek High School participated in a hands-on learning experience.
Guided by our team of mentors, including executives and seasoned professionals, the students, comprising six recent graduates and six juniors, gained valuable insights into the dynamic fields of business and finance. They attended executive meetings, explored various facets of our operations, and collaborated on presentations to showcase their newfound knowledge.
Jessica Freeman, a teacher from Spruce Creek’s Academy of Finance, shared her enthusiasm: “This experience exceeded our expectations. The students had an enriching week.”
A highlight of the program was a presentation competition, where students delivered their insights to a panel of judges. Emily Pilipczak and Mackenzie Malone emerged as the top team, earning $1,500 scholarships each for their outstanding contributions.
“This experience broadened my perspective on potential careers in finance and business,” said Mackenzie Malone, reflecting on her time at Brown & Brown.
J. Hyatt Brown, Chairman of Brown & Brown, commended the initiative, highlighting its role in inspiring future leaders and fostering community engagement. Tessa Goettsch, Director of Corporate Meetings and Events, underscored the company’s commitment to nurturing local talent and promoting career opportunities in Volusia County.
